We worship and serve God, sharing the gospel (good news)
of Jesus Christ in the community of Haxby and Wigginton.
We seek, through worship, service and prayer, to know and serve God even more deeply. To this end our Church mission statement says that:
The Methodist Church serving Haxby & Wigginton seeks to be a beacon in the local community for faith in Christ, and love and service to all.
We are a broad church in many senses, our church community includes over 400 people
of all ages and a variety of backgrounds.
Prayer is a particular area where we seek to reach out to support others in need. Along with regular prayer in worship, many of our groups pray on a regular basis, as well as prayer requests being notified to people of our Church community through the weekly notice sheet, prayer box, web-site and Church magazine. Our Church Prayer Chain is a prayerful crisis support ministry where a small group of people are committed to pray for whatever requests are asked for, immediately, confidentially and regularly.
Haxby & Wigginton Methodist Church exists not just for its own members but also to support and care for the wider community and world. To that end, each year 5% of our giving is donated to local and international charities. Regular giving within the life of our church is encouraged and many people now give in a way that suits them best: weekly, monthly, or annually, with many people Gift Aiding their gifts. In addition, we are in a partnership with Pinelands Methodist Church in Cape Town, South Africa and support their work in the Joe Slovo squatter camp. This partnership involves prayer support, financial and practical help and 2-way visits to work with and learn from each other.
